As far as I know, Zwerchgiebel can be another word for Zwerchhaus, which is in Proz as “gable lucarne” in English – does this help?

according to Langscheidt dic of architecture

Note added at 45 mins (2006-11-16 18:41:30 GMT)

the dictionary also says that it is a "Giebel des Zwerchhauses" where Zwerchhaus = Dachhäuschen = dormer
