German term or phrase: Doppelzangen
In timber construction.

Sentence context: "Auf jeder Längsseite der Kubus sind acht geschossübergreifende Ständer in Boden, Erdgeschossdecke und Dach mit Doppelzangen verbunden."

The text is describing the structure of the Haus Mayer-Kuckuk:

Do they mean that the upright posts are 'cradled'/held in place by the horizontal beams on either side of them? (The third image from the top in this article, showing 'Doppelzangen' in a wooden attic structure, and seems to confirm that...)

If so, what is the best way to phrase that/is there an equivalent specialist term in English?

In Glossarium Artis 10, Doppelzangen are translated as binding horizontal timbers, but I can’t find any English-language references to back that up.

Yes, it refers, in this case, to the horizontal beams that you described. This appears equivalent (not my specialism).
