German term
Sach- und Fachkompetenz
FVA
Not for points
German to English
Social Sciences
Education / Pedagogy
University study programmes
I have just finished translating a university admissions website and have encountered a couple of problems (hence several postings all at the same time)
"Fachkompetenz" appears to be defined with relation to "Sachkompetenz", which I am also having issues with.
Context below:
Fachkompetenz:

Perhaps this document may give you some ideas for further research:
Factual/technical competence (not task-specific) (“Sachkompetenz”): knowledge elements, skills, and abilities applicable across disciplines, subjects and occupations (e. g. foreign language skills, IT skills)
Task-specific factual/technical competence (“Fachkompetenz”): subject specific/occupation-specific skills, knowledge, and abilities

If you haven't already done so, you could also investigate "cognitive competence", i.e. the ability to apply knowledge and intellectual skills, versus something like "subject competence".

Thanks, that has been hugely helpful |
Discussion
I'm a relatively new Proz user and am on a bit of a learning curve with the etiquette. I wanted to have any suggestions confirmed and so chose the option to have any answers validated, rather than immediately select the best answer myself. I think that this automatically means that no points are awarded. I know that this may mean it is a bit of a thankless task, but I only use this facility when I have exhausted all other options and I have contributed answers to not-for-points questions myself.
I understand that the questions aren't all that simple, but I always make a point of responding to answers and thanking helpful comments.
I'm very open to learning more about the Proz.com community and I'm sorry if I gave the impression I was trying to take advantage of others' skills.
