German term

Planung

German to English Other Education / Pedagogy school subjects
This is a course name in a report card for a Swiss "Orientierungsschule", exactly what subject is meant here? I don't think it means Life Skills (Lebenskunde), Home Economics (Hauswirtschaft), Wirtschaftskunde (Economics) because these subjects are also listed in the same document. Various fine and applied arts courses (bildende Kunst, angewandtes/technisches Gestalten) are also listed separately. Is just "Planning" OK? It sounds like something that's taught in Swiss schools for which there isn't any exact US equivalent.

Discussion

Juliana Mraz (X) Mar 15, 2011:
Could it have something to do with politics? Or rather! something to do with the planning of school activities, maybe it is a kind of supplemental meeting of all class representatives, meaning school activities such as partner programmes, school parties, etc. are discussed.
John Speese (asker) Mar 15, 2011:
I too thought it might have something to do with study skills, or career planning as suggested, and that it's probably not a true "course" that you'd actually get a grade in, as Andrew suggested. Just trying to figure out exactly what it is in a (Swiss) education context, as the word "Planung" has so many meanings.
Inna Edsall Mar 15, 2011:
Would you like me to post it as an answer?
Anne-Kathrin Zopf (X) Mar 15, 2011:
could be it: Career Planning! Sounds the most logic to me, now I come to think of it!
Inna Edsall Mar 15, 2011:
Career Planning? Could it be a Career Planning Course?

Sure it's a course name? Sounds more like study skills (along with behaviour, attendance etc)

Method training

I know that in some German schools they teach how pupils can learn - the methods they can use. They can find out if it is better for them to learn with our without music etc. But I don't know exactly about Switzerland.

Could also be Career Planning - sounds very logic! (Much more, indeed!)

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "I think this is it, but used "study skills" instead because it is a more common term in the US. And it is a course because a subjective grade (i.e., pass/fail) was assigned to it."
