This is a description of a 'Präzisions-Feinzeiger ' - all it says is "Mit Stoßschutz und Freihub" one translation I've come across is 'free stroke' - is this correct? What exactly does it mean with regard to this precision measuring device?

neutral  dozegi (X): The link between a fork lift and a measuring device in question is that both operate with moving parts -retractable to be exact- and I think, using the term free stroke wouldn't be wrong in principle: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hub_(Mechanik)
