Explanation:
The mechanical seal of pumps is referred to as Gleitringdichtung in German. I am not familiar enough with eccentric spiral pumps to be sure there are no Gleitringe anywhere else, but thought it may be worthwhile to check against your context. In this case, I don't think the rings would shrink (they usually are of steel or carbon or tungsten carbide or something the like), but rather get scratched or worn unevenly or stick to each other-which would justify polishing them.

Explanation:
'Einlaufen' may mean 'shrink', but the dictionaries that I have say that this refers to textiles, and I don't think that 'shrink' is appropriate here. It can also mean 'run in' (as of an engine), but that is not normally a condition that requires maintenance. From the context, 'worn' is probably a good choice.
