Tech/Engineering - Engineering: Industrial / clinker cooler
German term or phrase: Kaltkanalproblem
From a description of a cooler for cooling e.g. cement clinker made in a rotary kiln:

I'd have guessed "cold channel problem," but I'm not finding confirmation for that.

Explanation:
I don't think there is a corresponding abstract noun in English; I'd work around it like so or similar

Explanation:
Sorry, my first answer was not quite in line with your question, and I do regret the (unintended) impression it created.

The only English equivalent of "Kaltkanal" I have come across so far is "cold runner," but that term refers to injection molding and is definitely not applicable here.

In the context of process engineering "false (cold) air" seems to be an established term, but I'm not sure if it would be appropriate here. In any case, I could not find any direct or indirect link to "Kaltkanal" on the internet -- neither with respect to "false (cold) air" nor in terms of cement production.

Notes to answerer
Asker: Thanks for the revision -- sorry if I overreacted before. I also ran into "false air" and wondered if that might be the same thing, but was not sure. Eventually I just used "cold channel problem," since there is enough description of the problem in the text for someone skilled in the art to understand what is being referred to.
