German term or phrase: "Tag der Tropenwälder"
My context is only a date on a calendar: September 14, 2013. The document I have simply lists other dates and their respective action days. For example, Welttag der Ozeane = World Oceans Day.

I have researched Tag der Tropenwälder on Google and there are over 97,000 hits, yet I can't find a reliable English equivalent! I have found "Day of Tropical Forests" and "Tropical Forest Day" but when I add the date, September 14th, only translated German sites appear, and only a few of those, so I am thinking that the English equivalent, if it exists, can't be an obvious translation. "Rainforest Day" and other similar ideas I've tried out on Google don't seem to work either.

The day was apparently initiated by the WWF in 1989 and is celebrated each year. Yet I can't find any reference to it on English WWF sites, the closest being to the formation of the Rainforest Alliance, also on September 14. One website says it was first celebrated in Germany, so I wondered whether this might be a German day only? When I look it up on German Wikipedia, under 'Liste von Gedenk- und Aktionstagen', however, it says this is an internationally celebrated day.

I'm thinking that the answer will be obvious to those in the know and I'd be grateful for any help. My thanks in advance.

Rainforest Awareness Day
Explanation:
Well, I think you're right that it's not an official WWF event.

Rainforest Awareness Day, initiated by WWF and held each year on September 14, draws attention to the ongoing destruction of tropical rainforests. The new interactive whiteboard package “The tropical rainforest” is a good way to introduce the subject to primary school pupils. It helps teachers explain to children not only the ecosystem but also the abstract theme of sustainability. The 22 individual media – which include a video, interactive graphics, and exercises – help pupils explore the rainforest’s flora and fauna and teach them about concepts such as “slash and burn” or “rainforest-friendly” practices.

My thanks to you, Kim, and everyone who went to the trouble of checking this out over the Easter weekend. Based on your comments there is evidently no official translation as such and so I went with your advice.
