The confusion was not regarding the construction, although "erhalten" has several different meanings. Really, I had wanted to ask about the entire sentence (i.e., ultimately, what the sentence was getting at), but knew I couldn't do that as I would be violating Kudoz rules for asking a whole sentence or more than 4 words or whatever the rule is these days, inevitably raining fire and brimstone down on myself from numerous circles. I still believe the sentence to be awkwardly worded and I've never seen it written like this.
I also don't appreciate all kinds of snap judgments being made about my asking and really do not understand what entitlement you envision yourself as having. I also tend to believe that many people would like to ask questions, but are afraid of getting all kinds of caustic notes. So they don't. |
