On a marriage certificate. Is this the same as a Geburtsurkunde?

The Abstammungsurkunde and Geburtsurkunde are often not the same thing in some parts of Germany, as you can see from this order form. -

My German wife has both. - They both came from the county clerk's (registrar's)office in Schleswig-Holstein where she was born. - I also have both, the birth certificate came from Kansas and it was used to fill out the Abstammungsurkunde at the county clerks (registrar's)office in Hamburg where we were married. - As far as the difference between the Abschrift aus dem Familienbuch and the Abstammungsurkunde, the following site does a good job of explaining it with tongue in cheek: -

Ach dann fehlt noch die Abschrift aus dem Familienbuch bzw. Abstammungsurkunde. Wo ist da der Unterschied? Ach ja steht auch da. Wenn die Eltern vor 1958 geheiratet haben, dann Abstammungsurkunde ansonsten beglaubigte Abschrift aus dem Familienbuch.

It is interesting to note that in Germany both animals and humans may have an Abstammungsurkunde so maybe "pedigree" would be a good translation as per this site: -

Here is how the US Military translates Abstammungsurkunde: -

"When a child is born in a foreign military or civilian hospital in GE, U.S. consular officers require a certified copy of the certificate of descent (Abstammungsurkunde) to support the child's birth registration. The parent or parents can obtain the certificate of descent after registering the child at the local registrar's office." -

Explanation:
Not necessarily... before marrying in Germany, you have to provide this evidence: it could be a birth certificate, it could also be the "Familienbuch" of your parents, depending on the authority.
