tool changer positions
Explanation:
The process being talked about here seems to be EDM:
...Electrical discharge machining (EDM), also known as spark machining, spark eroding, burning, die sinking, wire burning or wire erosion, is a manufacturing process whereby a desired shape is obtained by using electrical discharges (sparks)...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electrical_discharge_machining

Therefore, Wechslerplaetzen could be tool change positions, since most of these machines come with an automatic tool changer:

...The HQSF technology’s accuracy and quality combined with Makino’s applications support led us to purchase an EDNC65S sinker EDM with a 32-position tool changer. This investment has single-handedly changed our business and given us an advantage in these specialty EDM applications.”...

Perhaps, by calling it "tool changer positions" and not "tool change positions", one can add a subtle nuance to the meaning of the compound word as used here.

agree  Gudrun Maydorn (X): Definitely "tool changer", but I am not sure whether "positions" is the best word. "Plätze" may well refer to the tool magazine's capacity, ie the number of tool spaces or tool slots provided in the magazine.

-> Thanks. Plaetze could well refer to individual slots in the magazine, however I have found sufficient references to "tool change positions" in the specifications for such machines. See here: http://www.byrne-tool.com/capabilities/machinerylist

Reference: automatic tool changer

Reference information:
An Automatic tool changer or ATC is used in computerized numerical control (CNC) machine tools to improve the production and tool carrying capacity of the machine. ATC changes the tool very quickly, reducing the non-productive time. Generally, it is used to improve the capacity of the machine to work with a number of tools. It is also used to change worn out or broken tools.
...
After receiving the tool change command, the tool to be changed will assume a fixed position known as the "tool change position". The ATC arm comes to this position and picks up the tool. The arm swivels between machine turret and magazine. It will have one gripper on each of the two sides. Each gripper can rotate 90°, to deliver tools to the front face of the turret. One will pick up the old tool from turret and the other will pick up the new tool from the magazine. It then rotates to 180° and places the tools into their due position.
