German term

ausgipsen

German to English Medical Medical: Dentistry Mouth Guards
"***Ausgipsen*** in der Praxis ist fehlerhaft

Oberkiefer-Modelle aus weichem Gips genügen nicht, daher fertigen wir ein Duplikatmodell. (siehe Preise)"

From a Web site for mouth guards. The term "ausgipsen" is rather puzzling. Bucksch actually has "to plaster-out", but I'm not convinced by this and there are no decent search engine hits for the term in a dental context, at least none that I could find. How could this term be expressed correctly in English? TIA for your help.

casting

Diagnostic casts are also called study models.

Study models: Plaster models of the teeth made from an impression showing all the teeth in the upper and lower jaws and the relationship between the teeth.

Well, since this is regarding mouth casts, they wouldn\'t be diagnostic casts, but the same procedure applies.
