Abszess (Abscessus): Lokalisierte, von einer Membran umgebene Ansammlung von Eiter in einem nicht vorgebildeten Hohlraum, meist in Unterhautbindegewebe, nach bakteriellen Infektionen. Man unterscheidet den heißen Abszess unter örtlicher Hitze, Rötung, Schwellung und Schmerz und den kalten, auch chronischen, tuberkulösen Abszess, z.B. den sogenannten Senkungsabszess bei Wirbelsäulentuberkulose.
