German term or phrase: Angriffsjäger
This is actually a software text and there is just this one example of military use. Obviously, it was a mistake to steer clear of the boys who used to play war games at school ;-) According to my web research, an Angriffsjäger is an interceptor. Can anyone confirm or offer an alternative? We're talking about air forces, by the way.
Thank you

attacker, offensive fighter
Explanation:

interceptor = Abfangjäger
intercept = abfangen, Weg abschneiden

Angreifer = aggressor, attacker
Angriffslust = aggression
Angriffsspieler = attacking player
Angriffswaffe = offensive weapon

Thank you all for your help. I also liked Tech's "attack plane" in his note to me.

Angriffsjäger
intruder

Explanation:
At least that's what they call them at this war games site.

Intruder
The Intruder is mostly used on planets to attack your Enemy and also protect your Stations.
If possible, he can only hyper jump a short distance and therefore is only used for short range missions like exploration or protect your air sovereignty.

interceptor

Explanation:
Your "interceptor" makes sense, seeing as how the "Angriffsjäger" is an offensive ship that "hunts" its prey... :-)

Angriffsjäger
Attack fighter

Explanation:
Similar to Johannes' answer, but I think this precise form is correct for present-day military aircraft.

Interceptor was more commonly used during the Second World War, so that might be better is that is the period in which the game is set.

Kim's answer could be right if the game is set centuries into the future - who knows what they will call them then (maybe by that time everyone will be speaking Klingon!)
