music theory vs. musicology

CL5 for music theory, but CL3 for musicology. There seem to be some minor differences in the usage of the respective terms though, but I think this will cover the meaning.

music theory vs. music studies

Now everything works. Here is my answer.

I'm gald to see that efreitag agrees with me on "music theory". They are used as synonyms:

If you look at the definitions of Musiklehre, you will see, I think, that musicology is something different from Musikkunde. Scroll down to page four (now page 4) at this site (it was too long to enter last night in the note):

I would call this description "music studies", especially due to the historical element.

Musicology is something different, more likely to be Musikologie oder etwas mit Wissenschaft.

general music studies/advanced music studies

I suspect everyone does Allgemeine Musiklehre, and then Musikkunde 1 and 2 are following modules, for people specializing.

I could even imagine calling it 'music' in this context: general music, music 1, music 2.
