house where Melanchthon was either born or lived at some time Explanation: is there a more accurate explanation in the text? If not, the above is what I would guess. |

Melanchthon House and Museum Explanation: See the following URLs: www.melanchthon.com/ - www.blb-karlsruhe.de/blb/blbhtml/einrichtungen/melanchthonh... A search on Melanchthonhaus will yield any number of hits. As you know, Melanchthon (1497-1560) was a great humanist and worked closely with Martin Luther (Reformation). He was born in Bretten. |

See below Explanation: I think I would leave "Melanchtonhaus" and then add an explanation - brief or long, depending on the nature of your text. There are several Melanchtonhäuser. The one in Wittenberg is an original Mediaeval building in which Melanchton lived for more than 20 years and in which he died (1560). However, he was born in Bretten, but the house was destroyed in a fire in 1689. The Melanchton house in Bretten was built in 1897 on the site of the house in which he was born and has its own home page (see below). Reference: http://www.melanchthon.com/frame.htm |
