German term or phrase: Vermeilmontierung
This is part of a description of a Meissen water jug with a lid: "Der Kannendeckel mit französischer Vermeilmontierung". I know vermeil is the same in English in this context, but can I use "mounting" for "Montierung" here?

English translation:fastener ?
Explanation:
Might fastener work in your context? Or possibly clasp? Just a thought. If you have a picture, you might be able to determine if those suggestions would work. Mount or mounting sounds so technical to me, and Meissen wares are generally quite delicate. BTW, I would be careful about using vermillion as was suggested. Unless I'm way off base, vermillion is red, whereas vermeil refers to gilded silver. That's a difference.

"Clasp" is good, thanks! "Vermeil" is definitely not vermilion here; it´s vermeil, otherwise known as gilded silver. As this text is meant for specialists, vermeil is OK.

mount or mounting

Explanation:
Assuming this is an attachment for something else (such as a jewelstone), mount is commonly used, but mounting is an option.

BTW, why not used vermilion instead of vermeil? Chambers dictionary does have an entry for vermeil, but I doubt that anyone except a specialist would know what it means.
