In the context of software which draws family trees, i.e. pedigrees for breeding animals. Is the Stamm also the pedigree like Stammtafel and Stammbaum? The "Stamm" dialog window contains info on the animals name, number, date of birth etc. It is kind of the basic info.

As you see from the following, "line" is the most commonly used term.

Artificial selection occurs when humans, rather than the natural environment, choose the characteristics that will be passed on to the next generation. Plants and animals have been bred in this way for hundreds of generations and this type of breeding causes fertilisations that probably would not occur to the same extent under natural conditions. These fertilisations may produce new mixtures of genes within a species by gene flow between subspecies. New gene frequencies may also be achieved by selection of certain genes for a breeding line.

Outcrossing is generally used to introduce something new to a line -- a better head, better colors, better front, etc. Usually the puppies retained from these breedings are bred back into the breeder's original line to standardize them back into the line's general characteristics and reproducibility -- with the one desired characteristic. The tricky part is that other characteristics may come along for the ride!
