English translation: Base

German term or phrase: Standfuss
Referring to a piece of Böttger stoneware: "Flache gebauchte Flasche auf eingeschnürtem Standfuß." I presume this must refer to the base of the bottle, but can anyone suggest a better expression?

English translation:Base
Explanation:
I would stick with base since it's something that allows the bottle to stand, but isn't a "stand" or some kind of "leg" per se. The URL listed below shows one example of using "base" for "Standfuß," albeit the product at hand is a neck brush.

Stand

Explanation:
Hi Heather, I'd suggest just using "stand." It keeps things short. HTH, Will

foot

Explanation:
I'd suggest using "foot". The German implies that the foot is an integral part of the bottle; but the word "stand" implies to me a separate part into which the bottle may be placed. Hope this helps...

Explanation:
are you speaking about Johann F. Böttger, the creator of "Porzellan?

In that case I suggest "base".
