Nipple of death Explanation: Combines sexual imagery with mockery of death, a sure-fire laugh-getter in the AnglosSaxon world. This reminds me of the anecdote (possibly apocryphal) about the translator who, faced with the impossibility of translating humor, said "the gentleman just told a joke, please laugh." -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 2003-12-24 15:53:29 (GMT) -------------------------------------------------- That should, of course, be \"Interpreter, who faced with imposibility ...\" |

Würgenippel exterminator nipple Explanation: Hi Cilian, 'Würgenippel' certainly evokes associations with the Bunuel film "El angel exterminator", in German "Der Würgeengel". You could try a play on words, with, let's say, the "exterminator nipple"- but then I don't know how popular that Bunuel film was/is in the English speaking world... travel.yahoo.com/ p-travelguide-785940-berlin_bars_and_cafe_bars-i - 29k |

Würgenippel Below Explanation: Problem as I see it is that the German has a different (sexual) connotation built into the word "Würgenippel" as a possible source of a comedy "gag" (würgen- gag, or retch involuntarily, vomit ineffectually, heave, "retched nipples"). But the English "grommet", although it has humorous undertones is a planet away from the German conception. We don't even see the object itself as resembling a (throttling) nipple in English. "Vomiting grommet" (someone else suggested?). "Gagging gasket" (might work- stretching it a bit from grommet, though). "retching rubber eyelet". You might not find an answer, but at least you found some German commedians, you should be well pleased with that. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 15 hrs 15 mins (2003-12-25 02:44:20 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- A grommet is essentially a little fat rubber ring which fits tightly inside something (tube, maybe) or over something. |

purple nurple Explanation: i'm sure you know what that is and why it is called that. just figured that it fits in with your 'würgen' and 'nippel', the action causing the purple nurple is close enough to the würgen. by the way, purple nurple comes up with quite a few hits on google. |
