in despair

Explanation:
Langenscheidt's first definition for despair is Verzweifeln. This captures the hopelessness that is in Verzweiflung. "I don't know what to do. I am in (deep) despair."

Suggestion

Explanation:
Having a look at your grading comment, it would have been nice if you could have shared what you actually meant. The term "anguished" means "qualvoll/gequält" and is not necessarily the first term that crosses one's mind in regards to "verzweifelt". I personally think, that the proposed term "in (deep) despair" is really good. I am sure the term you chose fits best in your translation project, but next time may I suggest that you provide more context, so everyone will better understand what you mean.

P.S.: I do NOT intend to criticize, I am only suggesting better communication.
Have a great day!
