RÖMPP wird von uns kontinuierlich weiterentwickelt und ist so immer auf dem neuesten Stand – wissenschaftlich und technisch. Jedes einzelne Stichwort wird in enger Zusammenarbeit mit den Herausgebern – anerkannte Experten auf ihrem Gebiet – den qualifizierten Autoren und der erfahrenen RÖMPP-Redaktion erstellt und ist somit wissenschaftlich gesichert.

Akribisch wie das Bundeskriminalamt, schnell genug für die
Feuerwehr und so sicher, dass der TÜV nicht darauf verzichten
mag – das ist „Der RÖMPP“. Evaluiertes Wissen für alle, die
alles ganz genau nehmen müssen.
1947 wurde das Nachschlagewerk zur Chemie begründet.
Seither hat sich die Welt der Chemie und der an sie angrenzenden
Wissenschaften gewaltig verändert. Mit jeder neuen
Entdeckung und jeder weiteren Erkenntnis ist nicht nur das
Wissen, sondern auch der RÖMPP gewachsen. Im Umfang
und im Anspruch. Während die Erstausgabe noch aus einem
Band bestand, waren es bei der 10. Aufl age schon 6 Bände.
Angrenzenden Wissenschaften wurden nach und nach eigene
Werke gewidmet. So entstanden zusätzliche Lexika für Biotechnologie
und Gentechnik, Umwelttechnologie, Lebensmittelchemie,
Lacke und Druckfarben sowie Naturstoff e.
Der inzwischen auf beeindruckende Ausmaße gewachsene
Stichwortbestand aller RÖMPP Lexika bildete 2002 schließlich
die Grundlage für eine der weltweit ersten Onlineversionen
einer Enzyklopädie – im Internet seither nachzuschlagen
unter www.roempp.com.

I saw only one proposal (environment) without any sustantiation or any agree and felt astonished as this term is used otherwise (for Umwelt). I looked into my special dictionaries and found the correct term (medium), confirmed by reliable sources. After posting I realized one agree for "environment" and the same proposal made by Trudy (quicker, but no reference).
