“Red Engine” Explanation: “Red Engine”(quotation marks optional) On the German side, relevant references are virtually absent, except in one hit involving a red engine for a Volvo. On the English side -- after you sort through a few of the 2279 hits and disregard toys, tractors and fire engines -- you suspect this may relate to the GM’s VORTEC (red) ASA 5700 (a derivative of the LS1 V-8 engine, see below).--- On the German side: AltaVista (Any Language) 15 pages found – mostly irrelevant; word count: word count: roter motor: about 3; rote motor: 15, Ignored: rote motoren:0 e.g., (German: 3 hits): >>From a list of Volvo parts: [Typ: 4.3L/5.0L/5.7L V6/V8 GM roter Motor] http://kegel.de/fwc/f_volvo_preise.htm--- On the English side: AltaVista (English:) 2,279 pages found; word count: red motors: 36; red engines: 127; red motor: about 400; red engine: about 2000, e.g.: The VORTEC (red) engine is built right on the line in Romulus, Mich., alongside the production version and other engines, including the VORTEC 5300 truck engine. The assembly process is identical, except for just a few different parts. http://general.motors.xs2.net/news/events/sema99/vortec.htm At the 1999 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show here, General Motors pulled the wraps off its all-new VORTEC (red) race car, powered for the first time by GM’s VORTEC (red) ASA 5700 (a derivative of the LS1 V-8 engine). http://idavette.net/News/vtechred.htm In the past 2 hours or so this answer doesn't seem to have gotten through to KudoZ, evoking "THIS PAGE CANNOT BE DISPLAYED" error messages instead. So I'm trying it again from another PC on a separate line via a different network. Please excuse any duplications, in case an earlier attempt should get through after all. HTH, Tom see above |
