German term or phrase: Bürokaufmann
If anybody should be the happy owner of a business dictionary: I need the translation of this term describing a certain kind of professional title.
Bochert Translations
English translation:Office Manager
Explanation:
I disagree with the suggestion "clerk" which is closer to "Büroangestellter" and implies a worker with fewer skills, less training, and fewer responsibilities than the "B.kaufmann". The "Kaufman" had to absolve course work at a Berufsschule to gain the certification and title of Kaufman whereas the clerk learned via on-the-job training. It is common that a person enters an office environment following his schooling as Bürokaufman doing clerical duties with the understanding that s/he will be moved into the position of Office Manager once they've become acquainted with the workings of that particular office and corporate culture. "Office Administrator" is one step up and generally requires a university degree in business management.
