German term or phrase: absetzen
subject: heat treatment of washers
"An der Eilgang-Lichtschranke war ein Wackelkontakt. Die Folge waren undefinierte GA-Starts. (Note: GA is a heat treat line). Die Leitung wurde abgesetzt und provisorisch neu angelötet, bis eine Ersatzlichtschranke vorhanden ist."
Can anyone help me figure out what they did to the line/wire?? to correct this problem while they're waiting for a new photoelectric sensor?
Thanks very much in advance, Beth

strip the end insulation
Explanation:
Siemens, FWB industrielle Elektrotechnik, offers:

absetzen (Kabelisolierung)
to cut back, to strip the end insulation, to bare the core ends

That would make sense in your context as the line was then temporarily re-soldered until the new sensor is delivered.

HTH!

Thanks very much for your fast and helpful answer. I had never heard "absetzen" used in this context. I have to quit putting off buying that Siemens!
