Urlaubscocktail

German to English Marketing Tourism & Travel
not in the sense of a drink but rather in the sense of a combination of wonderful things coming together
"romantische Gässchen ... bistros... beach clubs..... mixen einen Urlaubscocktail, den es so auf dieser Welt nur einmal gibt."

I'm dithering as to whether I can use cocktail here in English too. "... come together to create a holiday cocktail".
I don't like it somehow. Grateful for any other ideas.

Wahrscheinlich bin ich zu alt ... aber bei einem Mix aus romantischen Gässchen, Bistros und Beach Clubs bekomme ich Magenbeschwerden. Ich sehe das genauso wie Frosty - kaum jemand wird das alles wollen, die Leute werden wählen, was davon ihnen gefällt und was nicht.

intoxicating Adapting Nicole's idea slightly - adding "intoxicating" as an allusion to the cocktail theme - ... combine to create an intoxicating mix (for a once-in-a lifetime holiday [experience], etc.)

I also agree with Nicola and Darin. Something along those lines should work. I wouldn't use holiday cocktail in English.

I agree with Nicola: "a perfect mix" or "a perfect blend" of holiday fun doesn't deviate too far from the "cocktail" concept, while sounding like "real" English.

Doesn't have to be a metaphor Just because it's a metaphor in German doesn't mean it needs to be one in English. You could just call it a "vacation/holiday experience like nothing else in the world."

I agree that it doesn't sound right in English, not to me anyway. If you avoid mix for mixen you could try something like create a perfect holiday mix... Just a thought.

an ideal mix

I live on St. Maarten in the Caribbean and so many tourist resorts promote themselves as the "ideal mix" of holiday activities. The word "mix" brings to mind a lovely cocktail/mixed drink while also being a lively and energetic term ("blend" is less lively, as it is too close to "bland").

Paricularly if it's a foreign holiday - amongst the many definitions for this word: a mixture of various objects that are unrelated to each other.

Having mixed, invented and drunk enough cocktails to just about fill an average oil tanker, I find your use of the word "complement" somewhat indicative of a scant personal knowledge of cocktails!

(holiday/vacation) cocktail

I think this metaphor works perfectly well in English, so you should respect the author's intentions. You could even take a few liberties as it's a marketing text, and say something like "... provide all the ingredients for a potent and colorful cocktail." You could leave out "holiday/vacation", as it's obvious from the context.
