In a art history dissertation. Section describing the attributional issues surrounding a 15th century Italian renaissance painting. This sentence, which is not part of my translation, describes the meaning of the word, but what is the English term please?
Einen schwierigen Teil der Händescheidung, also der Beurteilung dessen, welcher Künstler was in das Bild einbrachte, hat die Rückseite der Forschung also schon abgenommen.

I don´t think there is a set term. Mostly it is reworded depending on the context. Could you give us your whole sentence? Is it a question of several painters (like students) working on the same painting?
