In the name of our fathers' gods, can ye not wait till I am gone,-must ye taunt me to my face, O my city, and ye, her wealthy sons? Ah, fount of Dirce, and thou holy ground of Thebe whose chariots are many; ye, at least, will bear me witness, in what sort, unwept of friends, and by what laws I pass to the rock-closed prison of my strange tomb, ah me unhappy! who have no home on the earth or in the shades, no home http://members.nbci.com/book_archive/00/gk/soph/antig.html Lykos - war mit Antiope vermählt gewesen, die durch Zeus Mutter des Heldenpaares Amphion und Zethos geworden war. Also cf: Antigone ... of god eris. Dirke Explanation: It's a name. While there is agreement on the origin of the name (Dirke was the wife of Lycus), there does seem to be some disagreement on the way Dirke died. This might be a very useful source - it contains a lexicon of Greek mythology. Dirke -- A spring near Thebes named after the wife of Lycus who mistreated Antiope and was drowned in the spring. junior.apk.net/~fjk/antigone.html If you need further info, a Google search on "Dirke +Antigone" should yield a wealth of information. HTH. Good luck! |
