German term or phrase: Konstruktion
"Die Konstruktion des Homo Europaeus"
This is the title of a beautiful essay on the concept of being European, for better or for worse. It tackles concepts from Herodotus through Gobineau down to the Treaty of Rome and the adhesion of Russia and Turkey. My problem is, Homo europaeus is nothing parallel to Homo erectus, hence the anthropological "construction" or "reconstruction" may not apply. I'd like to brainstorm with you wonderful people out there. Can anyone suggest something absolutely brilliant?

English translation:Evolution?????
Explanation:
I wouldn't say brilliant but just a modest opinion. It would be good to see the essay although I think it would baffle me!! lol.
Good luck

Boy, this was tough, you were all so good, especially Vezna and Dan, but I'm taking this on the title. I don't reject "making" or "birth" or "construction" for the other instances, though. Wish I could split Kudoz.

birth / development / creation / growing / cultivation / construction / design etc.

Explanation:
All of the above suggestions seem excellent to me but if your context calls for something different or if you need several terms to avoid repetition, here are some more:

The birth / cultivation / development / design / growing / erection / assembly / montage / assemblage / upbringing / breeding / rearing / creation of Homo europaeus

The construction of Homo europaeus – could also be used as at these sites:

http://www.mayfieldpub.com/quizserv/quizzes/schultz/schultz5...

http://www.duke.edu/~bhj/anthro.html

especially if you are talking about how some sort of framework is designed, e.g. the EU, how the bones of the creature have been formed.

My first choice would be "evolution" but if your author had wanted that word, s/he probably would have used it in German.

HTH

Dan, who is slowly becoming one, for better or worse
