Art/Literary
German term or phrase: Entgrenzung
Talking about the liberation of art from formal constraints and the distinctions of genre at the beginning of the 20th. century: "Fragt man nach den Gründen für diese Neuerungen und Entgrenzungsphänomene, so wird man zu Beginn des letzten Jahrhunderts auf einen Paradigmenwechsel stoßen..."
Heather
English translation:break free
Explanation:
Entgrenzung is to break free. Actually you've put it pretty well yourself, don't be distracted by Phänomene. My proposal for your sentence would be something along the lines of: If we look at/examine why these new trends and the tendency to break free (of traditional constraints) emerged, we find that a paradigm shift took place towards the beginning of the last century..."
