English translation:awarding body/contractor + successful tenderer/service provider
Explanation:
"Auftraggeber" has numerous translations depending on context, i.e. type of work/service provided.
If it is a State context, I suggest "awarding body/authority".
If it is a commercial context, I suggest "originator" or simply "contractor".
"Auftragnehmer" is easier: in this case, if the contract has been awarded, I suggest "successful tenderer". In general, the applicants for the contract would be "service providers".

Client, Contractor

Explanation:
Somehow I fail to see how you are going to be able to understand, let alone translate, a contract if you dont even get as far as these very basic terms which can be found in all dictionaries...I would think you are on very thin ice, I would get hold of someone with a knowledge of german before you proceed.

Customer and Contractor

Explanation:
In a contract, these English terms are generally capitalized and used throughout the body of the text in place of the initially stated company name of the customer and of the supplier (of goods and/or services), respectively.
(Depending on context, Auftraggeber can also translate as client, mandator, principal, ordering party etc.; Auftragnehmer as supplier, seller etc.)

Auftraggeber could be the client or the principal in a company/organization or business, and Auftragnehmer would be the agent or tenderer if we are talking about a contract.
