"Fuer ein schnelles Querlesen werden die wichtigsten Kernaussagen des Dokumentes als Abstract zusammengefasst." skimming
Explanation:

I think "skimming", or "to skim" is more like it, because it implies "zig-zagging" of sorts. Please follow the reference below for detailed explanation.

I decided to use "skim-reading." I suppose the author wasn't necessarily distinguishing between scanning and skimming, but skimming seems to work best here. Thanks to everyone for their suggestions.

Explanation:
We usually call this "speed reading" in English. You can surely call it "cross-reading as well, but I would go with "speed reading".

scanning OR fast reading

Explanation:
See following definitions :

What is scanning?
SCANNING involves examining the organisation of a text to locate specific information. Most people use scanning to read web pages when surfing the internet.

Why are you reading this article or chapter, and what do you want to get out of it? When you have acoomplished your purpose, stop reading. For instance, your purpose in seeking a number in the telephone book is specific and clear, and once you find the number, you stop "reading." Such "reading" is very rapid indeed, perhaps 100,000 words a minute! Perhaps it should be called by its proper name, "SCANNING", but when it suits your purpose, it is fast and efficient. This principle, of first establishing your purpose, whether to get the Focus or Theme, or main ideas, or main facts or figures, or evidence, arguments and examples, or relations, or methods, can prompt you to use a reading method that gets what you want in the minimum time.

... use two bay high speed charger for another day of intensive use. In addition, the ScanPlus 1802 uses the latest scanning technology for fast reading and decoding. ...
