German term or phrase: Erbfall
In letter on taxation risks/benefits of passing property before death

Ein steuerliches Risiko beinhaltet diese Variante für den Fall, daß ... innerhalb der nächsten 7 Jahre..., der Erbfall eintreten Würde

I don't want to use 'in the event of death' which isn't euphemistic enough, does anyone have any more elegant solutions?

case of succession
Explanation:
or shorter jsut "succession".
This is the translation of "Erbfolge" (i.e. succeeding into the rights of inheritance), which is almost synonymous with "Erbfall".

The inheritor would then be the "successor", which is the legal term offered by E. LeDocte, "Legal Dictionary in 4 Languages".

Thanks! I had been toying with *in case of inheritance* but succession is definitely the better term.

event of decease

Explanation:
This is more euphemistic, as in e.g.

transportation to the nearest medical facility, transport to domicile, transport of children, transport of the body in the event of decease, substitute driver. ...
or
Article II. In the event of the decease in the Canton of Vaud of a British subject who shall not have made the formal declaration prescribed by Article I .

However,I think here an event (a case) of bequest is meant.
