German term or phrase: Standort Deutschland
In a company brochure: "Durch erfolgreiche unternehmerische Tätigkeit leistet **** seinen Beitrag für die Volkswirtschaft am Standort Deutschland."
I've been following the discussion on "Wirtschaftsstandort" with interest. "Germany as a business location" doesn't sound too good, but is there perhaps anything better or other than "Germany as a centre of commerce and industry" (suggestion by Tom for Wirtschaftsstandort")?

Germany as a center of business activity
Explanation:
… **** makes its contribution to the economy of Germany as a center of business activity …

I could possibly be that not everyone knows exactly where this term came from. It was first used in discussions many years ago about the exodus of German corporate plant siting to the Americas, Asia, Eastern Europe, and Africa. Everything from taxes through labor on to energy was (and still is) just too expensive here. People were and are worried about running out of employment here. They want to save the concept of Germany as a provider of work, production, goods & services, and income.

(on) German location

in this case; I just didn't see anything in the phrase to preclude other cases outside Germany.

German location ( German site )

Explanation:
"Wirtschaftsstandort" of plywood translates as "business location".
A long form of "German location" would be "company location in Germany".

"...makes a contribution to the national economy at the company location in Germany".

in the explanation

Explanation:
In my view, there's more in "Standort Deutschland" than the answers contributed above suggest. It's as much a political issue as it is an economic one, almost as serious as Thatcher's ridiculous "Buy British" campaign in the 1980s.
So let's see if you like this one (I'm not completely happy with it myself!):

".... makes its contribution to the German economy as a national business location factor."

It's far from perfect, but maybe you can play around with it a little more on this basis.
