German to English translations [Non-PRO]
Law/Patents - Business/Commerce (general)
German term or phrase: Begründungswirkung
This is a heading in GT&C of business practice contract. The full contect is:
“Änderungswirkung” falls ein Vertrag im rechtlichen Sinne bereits bestand.
“Begründungswirkung” falls noch kein Vertrag im rechtlichen Sinne bestand (absolute Ausnahme, sollte von XXXX auch nicht als geschäftliche Praxis angewandt werden).
I think the correct English is "Causal effect" ... is that correct and, if it is, what does it mean???? Any other poor mug working on Christmas Eve??

Explanation:
Not quite sure w/o more context but I think you'll have to re-qord this in English
X has/shall have the effect of a change/modification...
or X shall provide a reason
BUT it could also mean creation (in cases where there was no contract) Again, you've got the context; does one of the shoes fit?

My Dietl/Lorenz yieds only very clumsy English for:
'Begründungszwang' obligation to indicate reasons; duty to submit supporting arguments; substantiation is another option

It is customary to give the correct answer when you decline one. At the very least, Askers usually cooperate by giving the requested context.
