German to English translations [Non-PRO]
Bus/Financial - Business/Commerce (general)
German term or phrase: Umsatz
The full phrase is:
Der Haendler (HD) akquiert Urnsatz und uebertraegt diesen an den kostenguenstigen Zuliefer innerhalb des Netzwerkes.
This is from a management consultancy report about the restructuring of a group of companies based in Suedtirol. I've looked in my bilingual and monolingual dictionaries but it's not there. I've also looked on internet sites about Suedtirol but can't find it either. The only thing I've found that may be a translation of the term is "trade tax" but I'm not sure whether the site I found this on is particularly trustworthy.

Any help would be appreciated!!

Hi there!

No wonder you can't find it in your dictionaries - I'm about as certain as you can get that it's a typo for Umsatz = sales or revenues.

Thanks Alison and thanks also to everyone else. This does seem to be an error with the OCR as I have come across another term in the document spelled "urn..." instead of "um...". Hmmm.

Notes to answerer
Asker: Thanks Alison. I thought this might be the case - thought I'd better check it out though in case it is a particular Suedtirol thing...

agree  Richard Benham: What might be a common OCR error for Arial, I wonder. Seriously, I think this is far more likely, if less fun, than a set of urns....//I know that. I should have put "Arial" in quotes.

-> Optical character recognition software often mis-recognizes "m"s and turns them into "rn"s instead - especially in fonts like Arial.
