German to English translations [PRO]
Science - Chemistry; Chem Sci/Eng / Pyrazole
German term or phrase: übergehen
Als man das Salz über seinem Schmelzpunkt erhitze und den Rückstand im Vakuum destillierte, ging reines 1.3-Diphenyl-pyrazol über.

I normally understand "übergehen" as "change into" or "convert into" or "dissolve into" in some chemical texts. Should I just say in this case, "when the salt was heated beyond its melting poing adn the residue was distilled in a vacuum, pure 1.3-diphenyl-pyrazole transformed?"

Explanation:
That's the way I see it.

After all the trouble of distillation, pure ... was obtained.

Distillation is a physical process. It does no transform anything into anything else. It just separates compounds based on their volatility.

neutral  Ken Cox: Purely an aside: here 'übergehen' probably means literally 'go from the one vessel to the other' (via the distillation column).
