German to English translations [PRO]
Science - Chemistry; Chem Sci/Eng
German term or phrase: Durchschlagen
Context:
Bei der "normalen" Phosgenherstellung wird mit einem Ueberschuss von Kohlenmonoxid gearbeitet, um ein Durchschlagen des Chlors zu verhindern.

I've found various suggestions in dictionaries but am not sure which is right in this context (bleed-through/strike-through/penetration/breakthrough?)

Thanks in advance.

English translation:entrainment, contamination (carry through)
Explanation:

Chlorine is being carried through with the product into the next stage. It can be entrained, but I think that "to prevent contamination with chlorine" is better
