German to English translations [PRO] Tech/Engineering - Computers: Systems, Networks
German term or phrase:Umkopieren
I'm using the term backup, albeit in less flowery terms. Am I on the right track?
Dear all, thanks for all the suggestions, here is the complete sentence"
"Für die Funktionalität des asynchronen Umkopierens (nur zu OVS) dreht sich die Request-/Confirmation-Richtung um. XXXX verwendet Ressourcen aus anderen Dienstprimitiven des zugehörigen Funktionsablaufs."
Backup may cover it, but it is impossible to say for sure without a bit more context. Umkopieren suggests that the file or the data migh not only be copied but converted to another format.

Explanation: I do not think that "umkopieren" implies a change in file format. If it is performed manually, then the most common expression used in Englisch is "copy & paste". Otherwise one could also just use "copy". In my opinion, "Umkopieren" simply means that the data in the source folder is deleted after being saved in the target folder. The process could also be referred to as copy-transfer or simply as "transferring the data".
