German to English translations [Non-PRO] Tech/Engineering - Computers: Software / product description - Corel Draw
German term or phrase:CorelDream 3D 6 sei ein Tool..
My difficulty here is the role of the word " sei ".
I will give the sentence before and after for context :
" Der weitere Paketinhalt kann sich sehen lassen und dürfte auch den
Mac-Anwender über längere Zeit an seinen Rechner fesseln:
CorelDream 3D 6 sei ein Tool zur Erstellung dreidimensionaler
Grafiken. Es basiert auf dem bekannten Ray Dream 4.0. CorelTexture 6
unterstütze den Anwender bei der Erstellung von Texturen und
natürlich anmutender Oberflächen.
" Sei"- Should this be " is supposed to be", or " supposedly" or simply " is". I translated it as " is" initially but am no longer sure. I know technically " is " is " ist" but I thought this was perhaps just an unusual rendering and should still be translated as " is" anyway. My translation at the moment is :
" CorelDream 3D 6 is a tool for creating three-dimensional graphics "
It seems there are two options. Choose " is" which is most likely correct in terms of meaning, or " is said to be" which is technically correct in the scientific sense. I should probably say that I have failed past assignments when I did not stick to the text 100 percent. I do not have any room for creative liberties. technically " sei" is NOT " ist", so choosing " is" would be technically wrong. Is it my job to translate the words presented to me as correctly as possible, or to interpret what the author meant and basically re-write the text as I think it should be?
