German term or phrase: Messpixel

Elsewhere on Proz the following definition is provided:

"Messpixel sind meist nur 1×1 Pixel groß bemessene Bilder und sind transparent oder in der Farbe des Hintergrundes erstellt, damit sie nicht sichtbar sind".

However, the same definition is also provided (on Wikipedia) for the term Zählpixel.

Does anyone know if these two terms are interchangeable? If they are, then I think the correct translation is pixeltag or web beacon or tracking pixel. If they are not interchangeable, what is the correct definition for Messpixel?
