Tech/Engineering - Construction / Civil Engineering
German term or phrase: Schallentkopplung, Podestbelag
This is a description of a staircase:
"Betontreppe mit SCHALLENTKOPPLUNG gemäß Statik. Die Treppenstufen und der PODESTBELAG bestehen aus 30 x 30 terracottafarbenen Bodenplatten."
Can anyone provide a translation of the terms in caps.? TIA
Heather

Explanation:
Podest is landing [Bucksch, Wörterbuch Architektur, etc., and Gelbrich/Reinwaldt, Bauwesen], this refers to the covering used for the landing. I would try and phrase the sentence to say that the covering for the stair steps and landings is xyz. Schallentkopplung is a bit trickier; I would hazard a guess that it is sound proofing or sound insulation (if you've ever been in one of those concrete towers, you know that concrete stairs echo like crazy and conduct noise very well). Gelbrich also gives sound-absorbent as an adjective for a sound proof ceiling, and something like that might fit your purpose, more so, I think, than a term like acoustical. Anyway, hope this helps.

acoustic isolation

Explanation:
Schallentkopplung does not refer to the echo problem, but rather to the transmission of the sound through the structure to other rooms. Acoustic isolation is what is meant, though it would be better to use the verb: ...is acoustically isolated...
