German term or phrase: Schlachttafel
The food at my client's Greek banquet is scheduled to be served on Schlachttafeln. What are Schlachttafeln? Is there any connection to what soldiers might have eaten from? How should I translate this term? Will Chief Justice Rehnquist resign this week?

neutral  Ken Cox: Could be, although based on the size of butcher's blocks that I've seen (less than a metre square) , there had better be quite a few of them or only a few guests.

agree  Hilary Davies Shelby: you can get giant ones....

agree  Frosty: "butcherblock table" would do it - I used to sell them! The tabletop is made of numerous small quadratic pieces of wood glued/bonded together, in a sort of patchwork style.

agree  Gareth McMillan: ..with Frosty. I would also think butcher's table would be OK, but many butcher's "table's" had marble tops. Then again, maybe this one's got a marble top?
