German term or phrase: Notendurchschnitt
I know I've seen it here somewhere, but just can't find an answer....

I'm translating:
Der Gesamtnotendurchschnitt betraegt 2,5

Now, 2,5 is B average (gut) in German, but here in the US 2,5 is really not very good, as 4 is best. Do I leave the grade or adjust it? How do I do this?

GPA grade point average
Explanation:
seems to be the most typical solution for the US

I usually \'translate it\' (2.5 = would actually remain 2.5 ;-) and provide a scale of the German grades.
1 = 4.0 (US)
2 = 3.0 etc.

to add: 2.49 [oder sogar 2.5?] wäre noch 2- (zwei minus), das ist doch gar nicht schlecht. Und B/C is äquivalent mit 2/3.

sorry, wollte sagen 2.49 (US) wäre B minus, kommt aber aufs selbe raus

disagree  Johanna Timm, PhD: GPA is the average grade earned by a student, figured by dividing the grade points earned by the number of credits attempted at college/univ.> a more complicated calculation system; see: http://www.brunswick.cc.nc.us/academicpolicy/gpa.htm //no worries;)

  -> I can see your point on that. To be honest I usually simply use grade average, but I really thought 'GPA' was the equivalent. So I was wrong on that.
