German to English translations [PRO]
Tech/Engineering - Electronics / Elect Eng / Prüfanweisung
German term or phrase: Freilaufstecker
Nochmals die Prüfanweisung für elektrische medizinische Diagnosegeräte, hier Hochspannungstest. Habe die Frage zwar schon einmal gestellt, doch würde gerne noch einen Technikspezialisten dazu hören: Davor:
Gerät anschließen und mit Netzteil verbinden, Gerät nicht einschalten.
Hochspannungstester einschalten
Prüfspannung auf 2500 V stellen
Testen, ob Gerät auslöst: Kontrollfunktion. Gerät muss auslösen
Prüfpistolen an Messpunkte anschließen
Nach erfolgter Messung muss mit einem Freilauf-Stecker unbedingt für Spannungsfreiheit gesorgt werden. "
Vielen Dank schon mal für alle Vorschläge

English translation:Discharge plug
Explanation:
A suggestion based on the context. In electronics terms, 'Freilauf' is normally used in two senses: no-load operation (which doesn't seem appropriate here since the equipment is not switched on) or to describe a diode connected across a coil to allow an induced voltage to be discharged. IMO the latter meaning could be used by extension in your context.

An alternative interpretation based on the other meaning would be 'dummy load plug' (a bit of a leap IMO)

In any case I recommend that you clarify this with the client.

Afterthought: maybe the plug is for the HV tester instead of the device under test (makes more sense actually). In that case it could be an 'open-circuit plug' or a combined open-circuit (external) and discharge (internal) plug.

In this case, there are several options in English, but 'output disable plug' comes to mind first. If you know the make or model of the tester, that could be useful information.
