Interestingly enough, most of the google hits for the term are on Scandinavian sites (Swedish I think).

I added 'display' because on the image sites I see, a Multitaster seems to most commonly be a control module with several pushuttons performing various functions and (often) other display or control elements -- and if you have multifunction buttons, you need some way of knowing which function you are commanding or using, which means you need some form of indicator or display.
Judging from the large number of hits on Scandinavian sites, it may originally have been a proper name invented by a Scandinavian machine tool manufacturer.
