German to English translations [PRO]
Tech/Engineering - Energy / Power Generation /
German term or phrase: Kompaktgerät
CONTEXT:

Die Technologie des Passivhauses und des Kompaktgerätes als dessen Herz durch-läuft eine bemerkenswerte Entwicklung. Bereits in sehr früher Phase, als an ein Massenprodukt noch nicht zu denken war, standen die ersten Kompaktgeräte zur Verfügung.

Would 'compact device' be correct or is there, perhaps, a specialist term in English? Thanks in advance, Matts.

English translation:compact appliance or device
Explanation:
I only prefer to avoid "device", because it tends to look like a "last resort", but there's nothing wrong with it in fact; can you not use "generator", or do you not know whether that's what it is?

agree  Ken Cox: Things are generally named by their function in English, but if the function is not apparent from the general context, 'appliance' or 'unit' would be possible. I agree that 'device' is a poor choice in this context.
