What is the correct English term for Gesamtsteuerung in this context?
Als Master- SPS fungiert die SPS „Gesamtsteuerung“. Die SPS ist über den MPI -Bus mit dem MP370 verbunden.

Über ein angeschlossenes Modem kann im Bedarfsfall mittels Fernwartung durch die Fa. XXX durchgeführt werden. Zur Fernwartung muss das Modem mit der CPU „Gesamtsteuerung“ verbunden sein und eingeschaltet sein.

Ansonsten macht das nicht viel Sinn, denn eine Gesamtsteuerung ist eine Steuerung, die das Gesamte ohne Nebenbaugruppen steuert. Die Erwähnung der Master-SPS deutet darauf hin, dass noch mindestens eine Slave-SPS existiert. Ob "Gesamtsteuerung" übersetzt wird, sollte sich danach richten, ob die Übersetzung durchgehend verwendet wird, also in allen Schaltplänen und als Beschriftung an der Hardware. Wenn es durchgehend übersetzt werden soll würde ich "Master-PLC" oder "Master-Control" verwenden, da mit "Gesamtsteuerung" die Master-SPS bezeichnet ist.

agree  Ken Cox: sorry, I hadn't noticed your reply. I agree with your comments, although IMO 'control unit' is more natural in English, and the hyphen is definitely out of place in English.
