German to English translations [PRO]
Tech/Engineering - Engineering (general)
German term or phrase: Grenzmuster
As seen in questions from supplier audits/assessments:

1. Liegen für alle Prüfschritte des Produktes (Folie) schriftliche SOP´s vor inkl. Spezifikationen und Toleranzen der Folie?
2. Ist ein Masterdruck und Grenzmuster vorhanden?

Later on in a report:
Ein Masterdruck des Folienlayouts liegt vor, Grenzmuster sind nicht vorgesehen.

English translation:reference sample
Explanation:
Grenzmuster is a term used for samples (eg of printed packaging materials) showing the maximum and minimum tolerance levels for colours etc. Normally a Grenzmusterkarte consists of three samples, one showing the standard required, one the minumum acceptable deviation and one the maximum acceptable deviation. The QC checker just has to compare samples of incoming goods with the maximum and minimum acceptance samples and decide if the incoming goods are acceptable or not.

tolerance pattern

Explanation:
I presume we are talking about patterns used to calibrate the transfer of images to be sure measurements are reproduced correctly.

border pattern

Explanation:
You should be able to use the term "border pattern" if "Grenzmuster" refers to a border or frame for decoration purposes around the the print.

tolerance card

Explanation:
The supplied context information is barely enough. Are you sure that you understand the function of the object described by the term.If you have a clear idea what it is it might help you find a good eqivalent. From my experience I know that quality audit procedures in their practical application require the use of product cards. Which are laminated pieces of paper with the information about tolerances, included angles, and tool settings. If such card is not foreseen it may mean that the product's conformance to the standard is proved visually by method of attachment of the master to the product. When the operator just checks the conformity without the knowledge of the actual tolerances
