German to English translations [PRO]
Law/Patents - Government / Politics / Austrian Mission to the EEC
German term or phrase: Prokuraturskommissär
This is the title of Peter KLEIN that I’m translating as part of a table entitled “List of the members of the Austrian Delegation to the negotiations with the EEC (30 January–3 February 1967)”:

„Prokuraturskommissär - Bundesministerium für Handel, Gewerbe und Industrie“

Attorney Commissioner? (a bit American-sounding, maybe?)
Something else?

There is this glossary compiled by the Translation Service of the Federal Chancellery of Austria:, and it gives “Attorney-General” for “Leiter der Generalprokuratur” and “State Attorney (OECD)” for “Finanzprokuratur”.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Federal Prosecution Commissioner

I would probably translate it that way as this would be suitable for EU and GB English. The same profession would be a Crown Prosecutor in the UK, but a Federal Prosecutor in Austrian terms. If the Federal Chancellery of Austria goes for the US terms then I guess you should too. Otherwise the term federal Prosecution might serve the German/ Austrian Staatsanwaltschaft. Er ist also der Commissioner fuer die Staatsanwaltschaft, so wie es EU and State Commissioners gibt

Asker: Thanks for your suggestion. In the end, I went with "Attorney Commissioner", just because it's closer to what the Translation Service of the Federal Chancellery of Austria suggests. Thanks for your input!
